The New York Chapter of the Alumni Association of the Presentation Brothers College (PBC) has come to the assistance of the cricket club in their old school. The group which is over two years old has a seven member executive and a broader membership of twenty-five persons. On Tuesday Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Association Ronald Charles presented Principal of PBC Dominic Jeremiah with over $1200.00 US worth of cricket equipment. The items include balls, bats, pads, gloves, shin pads, helmets and stumps. In his brief remarks, Jeremiah praised the Association for the work it has been doing over the years to improve the condition for the students at the school. He disclosed that the group has agreed to raise funds and to pay off a loan of $EC80.000 the school owes for the new wing that was constructed over a year ago . Dominic stated that the school has always played good cricket and that at least one of their students Bronson Johnson, a former under fifteen player and Vice Captain, is being considered for the Windward Islands under nineteen team. He believes that the items will go a long way in boosting the moral of the players as well as helping them to lift the level of their game. In presenting some of the items to the Principal, Charles promised that the school can expect more assistance from the association. He said the group understands the need to continue assisting the PBC so that the environment in the school will be better for the students as well as for it to maintain its reputation as a model educational organisation in the country. School Teacher and Manager of the cricket team Kester Matthew who also spoke at the ceremony said the players are delighted with the presentation. He said that it will go a long way in enhancing the ability of the boys in the playing of the game for their school. According to Matthew, PBC has had many cricketers playing on the national youth team in the likes of such as Bronson Johnson, Perry Mason and Andre Charles who was awarded student athlete of the year 2003. Member of the school cricket team Mario Christopher thanked Charles on behalf of the teachers and students of PBC for the items. He gave assurances that they will make good use of the equipment and take best care of the gears. |
