He made the call will delivering remarks at the 2nd Annual TAMCC School of Applied Arts and Technology Skills Exhibition. The one week event which got on the way at the College on Monday is scheduled to climax on Friday. It was held under the theme "Building, Advancing, Succeeding As One Community". Pierre noted that if students coming out of TAMCC are to be successful in this changing environment, then there is a need for the College to double up its efforts and improve its programme. He pointed out that changes have to be made as to the way courses in Hospitality, Tourism, Skills Training among other areas are being taught in this changing environment. Pierre said that the focus of the College must change since it should not be "education for education sake" but one that will provide an edge for students in this global village. The Civil Servant pointed out that gone are the days when students who were incapable academically were ordered to learn a skill. He said that with this changing environment, the person with the skill is the one that will get the job. Acting Principal of TAMCC Lincoln Morgan in his remarks believes that the exhibition will provide the students with an opportunity to showcase their skills as well as assist them in becoming more creative and innovative. He said it also provided them with an opportunity to produce things that will help improve their training and to become more competitive. Morgan also viewed the exhibition as an opportunity for the public and College officials to interact and to get first hand information about the work of the different departments. Dean of TAMCC School of Applied Arts and Technology Desmond LaTouche in his remarks noted that the exercise will help the students build character and confidence. He pointed out that Grenada needs talented and resourceful young people with a sense of patriotism to make it a place of hope for future generations. LaTouche sees the exhibition not displaying tangible objects but is done with pride and satisfaction, an indication of the skills and talents of the young people. During the week lectures were held on topics such as Agriculture and Environmental Awareness, Sustainability & Tourism, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Single Market and Economy (CSME) as well as Technical Education In Balance with Academic Education for Business Creation. |
