Two Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and a local primary school were recipients of financial assistance from local mobile provider, Digicel.

The company on Thursday presented cheques worth $EC5000.00, $500.00 and $300.00 to Grenada Special Olympics, St. Andrew's lions Club and the Beaulieu R.C.School respectively.

Digicel Marketing Executive, Reece Sam handed over the donations last Thursday at a ceremony held at the company's headquarters in Point Salines, St. George's.

Sam said that the Irish-founded Digicel is a Caribbean company which is committed to the development of Caribbean peoples and views it sponsorship of sporting, cultural and special projects as a way of giving back to the community for its support of the telecoms provider.

The contribution towards Grenada Special Olympics is to assist in the operations of the programme. Chairperson of the group, Debbie Neckles expressed gratitude for the contribution noting that it will help in the training of the local athletes for the 2007 games.

In the case of the Lions Club, member Gloria Thomas said that the money will go towards assisting children in St. Andrew's with vision problem in terms of helping them to purchase eye glasses.

As it relates to the Beaulieu R.C. School, Principal Cecil St. Louis noted that the money will go towards assisting them in the setting up of a library for the school. For the month of May which is recognised locally as the month of the disabled, Digicel has reportedly donated a total of $15.000 to the disabled in the country.
