Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell says his ruling New National Party (NNP) government is recruiting persons with skills and commitment to provide service and leadership in various areas of need for the country. Dr. Mitchell made the comment at a ceremony held at the office of Governor General Sir. Daniel Williams on Lucas Street on Tuesday in which Attorney at-Law Leslie-Ann Seon was presented with her Instrument of Appointment as a Senator. Seon is expected to be officially sworn in as President of the Upper House on Friday when Parliament meets for the first time after the November 27 general elections. The Prime Minister dropped strong hints that Seon is considered as someone involved in the NNP. "We at our party recognise that for our own continued success we have to attract new faces into the party for the future governance of our country", he told the short ceremony.
Dr. Mitchell spoke of feeling happy and proud that Seon, a practicing
local attorney will be among his party to help continue the process
of providing leadership to the people of the tri-island state. "This is a political appointment. This is not an independent Senator. This is a party representation now, this is an NNP Senator, not a government Senator, is simple as that", Dr. Mitchell said.
The appointment of Seon has completed the amount of persons (seven)
government can select to represent it in the Upper House. |
