A meeting was held on Tuesday between representatives of the Grenada Trades Union Council (GTUC) and the Public Sector Management Improvement Project (PSMIP) Team from the Department of Human Resources (DHR) in the Prime Minister's Office. The meeting, which was organised by DHR, was called to obtain the TUC's input in the Action Plan being developed to address the obstacles to private sector development in Grenada. The Plan was drafted following a Private Sector Round Table, which was held on September 11, 2003. The TUC was represented at the meeting by Stanley Roberts, First Vice President, Ray Roberts, General Secretary, Elliot Bishop, Denis Thomas, Winston Thomas while the PSMIP Team included Wayne Radix, Head of Change Management, as well as Veronica Charles and Sherma Roberts-Joseph. A government release said that the TUC welcomed the dialogue, describing it as a healthy process that can be very significant in facilitating the changes contemplated. The TUC took the view that the recommendations of the draft document was very useful and, when implemented, would have a significant impact on the private sector environment. According to the release, the TUC representatives indicated at the meeting that the trade union movement was looking forward to having consideration given to the ideas it put forward at the meeting implemented. These included having TUC representation on statutory boards, and further TUC involvement in the development of labour policies and education programmes for workers. The labour body is of the firm belief that in the future it should be more involved in this kind of dialogue before plans are implemented. The PSMIP Team was due to travels to Carriacou on Friday (January 9) to meet with private sector representatives to conclude its consultations on the private sector development Action Plan. |
