Works Minister Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen says her ministry does not have any immediate plans for the reconstruction of the Fort Jeudy Road. She was responding to several questions directed to the Ministry of Works by opposition Member of Parliament (MP) for St. George's South, Glynis Roberts. Roberts wanted to know whether the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP) government has plans to repair the Fort Jeudy Road, at what cost, when will the repairs begin and if tenders have been invited to interesting contractors. She raised the issue under Questions during a sitting of the House of Representatives last Thursday. The Member of Parliament for the South queried if the work to be undertaken will be carried out by a private contractor or by the Ministry of Works and to state went it will be completed. Roberts requested copies of the tendered documents and wanted to know the amount of jobs that would be created as well as the estimated cost of the work to be done. In her reply, Minister Modeste-Curwen disclosed that there are no confirmed plans for the reconstruction of the Fort Jeudy Road. However, she said that the matter is being discussed with the residents of the area and she intends to visit the area soon. The Member of Parliament for the South who is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also questioned when work will be carried out on the road from the Cliff through Woburn to Woodlands as well as the Cafe/Woodlands Roads. Roberts wanted to know from the Minister if bids were received and considered by the Tenders Board. She requested copies of the tendered documents of all those who submitted tenders for the project as well as the amount of jobs that will be created and the estimated time for the conclusion of the project. Minister Modeste-Curwen stated that the Cliff through Woburn to Woodlands Road as well as the Cafe/Woodlands Road are part of a larger project that includes the reconstruction of the road from Grenville to Sauteurs. She said that negotiations are underway with an external funding agency and that no contract has yet been awarded. |
