The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is wooing to its camp an executive member of the People's Labour Movement (PLM) of Dr. Francis Alexis.

Party insiders have told GRENADA TODAY that the PLM official is expected to become a full-fledged party member of the congress within a matter of days. When contacted the official confirmed that he was approached by NDC activists and had agreed to join the party.

The official asked that his name be withheld for the time being since he has not officially informed PLM of his decision to resign from the party and move on politically. He said that he was approached by the NDC to join the group and after giving some consideration decided to make the move.

"I have asked for the application form to join (the NDC) but that has not been given to me as yet", he added. St. Andrew's resident, Shurland Bullen was the first PLM member to quit the party and sign up with the NDC.

Bullen is the current Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the St. Andrew South-east constituency of the NDC branch that is headed by Member of Parliament, Kenrick Fullerton. The PLM member indicated that he would not be attending the NDC's Annual Convention to be held Sunday in St. Andrew's.

"I am not yet a member so I don't think that I will be going", he said. NDC officials have said that the delay in signing up the PLM Executive member is due to certain changes being made to the application form for persons to fill up to become a card bearing member of the congress.

The NDC executive has recently mandated party activists to embark on a massive recruitment drive to attract more persons into the party. The party is smarting from its impressive showing in the November 27 general election when it won seven of the fifteen seats in parliament to leave Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell in charge of a one-seat majority government.

The congress is hopeful of forcing a change in government within the next few months following its decision to challenge in the high court the outcome of the Carriacou & Petite Martinique constituency in which its deputy political leader George Prime lost by six votes to Foreign Affairs Minister Elvin Nimrod.

The NDC petition is expected to be heard next month by Justice Charmaine Pemberton in the Number Two High court. Among the charges levelled by the NDC Number Two man is the number of persons who were prevented from casting their ballots, as well as the case of missing ballot and someone voting for another person who was known to be in New York at the time.

Prime Minister Mitchell is said to be equally confident of remaining in office for the next five years, privately assuring close associates that a court would be hard-pressed to change the status quo in the country since a government is already in place and looking after the affairs of the nation.
