Talented Grenadian musician Aiden SlingerLocal guitarist Aiden Slinger has launched his maiden musical album called GUITARTETUDE which is now on sale at several record stores in the country. The album is comprised of six renditions - Ripe Mango, Fly Me To The Moon, Summertime, Wave, But Beautiful and All of Me.

Copies of the records are currently on sale at Turbo Charge Records on St. John's Street, Rasta Pranny's Booth at the Bus Terminal as well as Benjamin Variety Store in the town of Grenville.

Slinger, a well known guitarist and musician, who was born in St. Andrew's, was a school teacher for 23 years. His last assignment was at the Boca Secondary Scool in St. George's.

Slinger told GRENADA TODAY on Monday that GUITARTETUDE is a mixture of calypso and contemporary jazz which was recorded in New York at 'Sling Sound Studio' owned by himself and the executive producer of the album, his brother Ronnie Slinger.

The guitarist who is visiting the island to promote the album said that he hopes to tour the Caribbean within the coming months to perform at some of the major jazz and innovative music festivals across the region.

Slinger who plays the acoustic and electric guitar is already working on his second album which he hopes to release later this year. The former school teacher believes that in spite of the odds, he can describe his years in the music industry as successful.

He spoke of applying sixteen times for a government scholarship to study music and being turned down on each occasion. Slinger also said that over the years none of the administrations in charge of running the affairs of the State were willing to offer him any financial assistance to pursue his musical career.

The artist sees his return to Grenada as an opportunity to contribute towards the development of the artform through the staging of workshops and seminars for musicians across the island. Since taking up residence in the United States, Slinger has performed at various venues in Philadelphia and New York including Central Park as part of the sensational band, "Global Explosion".

He also made appearances with other artistes such as former national monarch Edison "Ajamu" Mitchell, as well as local playwright, Paul Keens Douglas. The guitarist was also among the cast of the 2003 Grenada Spice Jazz Festival along with Tonka Being, a 10 member elite group which comprised some of the best musicians in Grenada.
Slinger was the founder of the Kromatic Music School in 1990 and helped pioneered the formation of the Grenada Jazz Society.

Described as multi-talented, he also plays the keyboard, flute and bass and does upholstery, general and graphic arts, leather craft and wood work.
