Minister of State responsible for Information, Senator Einstein Louison, met on January 29 with a five-member delegation of the executive of the Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG).

The delegation comprised President Carla Rae Briggs, First Vice President Michael Bascombe, Secretary Ray Roberts, Assistant Secretary Carol Williams and Treasurer Callistra Farrier.

Minister Louison was accompanied to the talks by Nancy McGuire, the Press Secretary to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. A government release said that the media delegation took the opportunity to inform Sen. Louison that the association is focussing on training and other means of upgrading the profession of journalism in Grenada.

Areas discussed in this regard included the provision of scholarships for journalists to study abroad, as well as
ways by which local media workers can obtain certification through the T.A. Marryshow Community College or other learning institutions in Grenada.

Sen. Louison welcomed the suggestions and ideas put forward during the meeting and it was agreed that MWAG would submit a proposal to Government for the consideration of these and other matters, including concessions for media houses.

It was further agreed that the draft Media Policy, which was formulated in collaboration with the media grouping between 1997 and 2001, will be re-examined by the association.
