The National Flag of Grenada will for the first time, be flown on the Empire State Building in New York City. This recognition was realised through the initiative of Derek Ventour, a New York-based proud son of the soil who is the President and CEO of Dee Vee International Productions and a cultural promoter in New York. Ventour held discussions with the management of the Empire State Building and was able to convince them to fly Grenada's National Flag from the 6th floor in front of the building for the period February 6 to 8, in commemoration of the island's 30th Independence Anniversary.
The Empire State Building is a New York City and National Historic Landmark,
which soars more than a quarter of a mile into the atmosphere above
the heart of Manhattan. In commemoration of the 30th (Pearl) Anniversary of Grenada's Independence, a number of activities have been planned for the Grenadian Community in New York. The 2004 Independence Committee began with a Youth Programme on January 31, and an Ecumenical Church Service on February 1. It will culminate with the Annual Awards, Dinner and Dance to be held on Saturday.
On Sunday, Dee Vee International Productions will be presenting, "A
tribute to Our Heroes", Calypso/Soca Music Awards at the Wingate
High School with performances from Black Wizard, Ajamu, Flying' Turkey,
Inspector, Lord Slim, Flying Cloud and Val Adams. |
