The stage is all set for the hosting of the Cable and Wireless Grenada, Soca Monarch finals which takes place on Friday night at the National Stadium in St George's. The show which over the years have attracted close to five thousands people on the night of the competition, will be opened by seasoned campaigner and former soca monarch Elimus Gilbert "Inspector", who is considered a favorite to dethrone the reigning soca monarch champion Wilt Cambridge, "Tallpree". "Inspector"
will be performing his rendition "Why Me", and will be immediately
followed by another past winner Sheldon Douglas who is expected to tease
the audience with his latest soca hit "Today". Steve Theodore, will be singing in position number 5 with "D Carnival Start", Heslyn Flanders "Hess" with "Bam Bam in de Road" will grace the stage in the 6th position. "Hess", who is known for his controversial christmas parang will be followed by former soca monarch Findley Jeffery "Scholar" and his "Briefcase". Another artiste who promises to give a good account of himself is Hayden Francis who goes by the stage name Terror-P will sing his soca hit "Saddam in d hole" in position 8 while the first runner up in the 2002 soca monarch finals Kenrick "Japs" Austin will appear in the 9th position to do, "The Prayer" another big hit for carnival 2004. Singing in position 10 is the self acclaimed mad man of soca Evlyn Alexander "Zingo" who is more than expected to work "Magic" the song he said will give him the crown. Some
local observers believe that David Peters "Boogie B" and his
"Burn dem out' soca tune can create an upset come Friday night. Mapp
who is well known in the entertainment industry as "Baby Killa"
will perform his best hit for the season "Thunder Rags" while
George "Lazer" Noel will sing the "Road to Athens"
in position 13. "Tallpree" who recently won the Tropical Shipping beach jam soca show down over the Emancipation Weekend at the Grand Anse beach for the second straight year, will be singing in position number 14 come Friday night. Up
until press time Grenada Today was unable to verify which of the twelve
songs Tallpree will be singing in the competition. Former six times calypso monarch Edson Mitchell "Ajamu" will sing in position 16 to clsoe the show. "Ajamu" is considered by some to be one of the front runners for the crown. The stand-by artiste for the night is Randy Isaac. |
