There has been a shake-up in the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).

Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that two senior officers of the department have been transferred to different regions of the country in recent days.

A source who asked not to be named said that Superintendent Anthony Joseph has been sent to South St. George Police Station to head the fight against criminal activities in the south of the island.

He also said that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ignatius Mason has been transferred to do regular police work at the Gouyave Police Station.

Unlike Mason, Supt. Joseph will still remain on the CID staff. It will be Joseph's second stint at the South St. George Police station in recent years.

There are also reports that two members of the Immigration Department have been transferred from their posting with little notice given to them.

Speculation is rife that the two officers have been moved on suspicion that they are "too close" politically to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of barrister-at-law, Tillman Thomas.

RGPF insiders have told this newspaper that the ruling New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has lost a lot of its support among police officers to the Congress party.
