The Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (GRENLEC) has made a timely contribution towards the payment of prize monies for this year's carnival celebrations. On Wednesday, Corporate Services Manager Claudia Alexis presented a cheque worth $10,000.00 to Chairperson of the Grenada Carnival Committee (GCC) Jennifer Woodroofe. The presentation was made during a short ceremony at GRENLEC's main office on Halifax Street in the presence of Communications Consultant Zarah Chase. Alexis said that the money will go towards the payment of prize monies for the 2004 Panorama Championship which comes off on Saturday at the National Stadium in Queen's Park. The GRENLEC Corporate Services Manager disclosed that the company has been making financial contributions towards the event for the past five years. She spoke of GRENLEC's commitment towards the steel pan, noting that they are the sole sponsor of the St. Andrew's Rainbow City All Stars. According to Alexis, the band itself was the recipient of $40,000.00 from the utility company to purchase pans and other items for Saturday's Panorama. Woodroofe thanked GRENLEC for the donation calling it a timely interjection which she said will go a long way in assisting with the payment of the prize monies. GRENLEC has also announced that it will be distributing over 1000 pouches in collaboration with the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWAM) with the aim of keeping the country clean during this carnival season. Customers paying their bills during the rest of the week will be given one so that they can take with them in their vehicles to dispose of their garbage. |
