Police in Grenada have seized a suitcase containing twenty-five (25) pounds of compressed marijuana which allegedly came into the Point Salines International Airport (PSIA) on a LIAT flight.

Information reaching Grenada Today indicate that luggage handlers at the airport placed the suitcase in the lost luggage department with the hope that the owner would come to collect it.

A source who asked not to be named said that nearly two weeks after the suitcase arrived at the airport, no one still showed up to identify it.

He indicated that a decision was taken to examine the suitcase which carried a name tag of a well known retired principal of a popular secondary school in the city.

The source said that when the suitcase was opened the law enforcement officials discovered the drugs and decided to visit
the former school principal to question him about the incident.

It is not clear what was the outcome of the police talks with the principal but no one has been charged in connection with the discovery of the illegal drugs.

Speculation is rife that the principal's name was placed on the suitcase to smuggle the drugs through the airport since the individual is known "to be a very upright person in society".

An official working at the airport told this newspaper that it the feeling is that the principal was "set-up" by those involved in the illegal drug trade. Police investigations are said to be still continuing into the matter.
