NDC IS READY FOR ELECTIONS

Assistant Public Relations Officer for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ann Peters says the party is ready to form the next government in the event a General Election is called in the country.

Ann PetersPeters told an estimated 2200-2500 party members and supporters at the NDC annual convention held at the River Sallee Government School in St. Patrick’s last Sunday, that the congress is ready to transform Grenada. “We are ready once and for all, to put that monstrosity that leads the house full of termites to rest”, she charged amid loud cheers from supporters.

In a fiery address, Peters promised that when NDC forms the next government the party will rid the country of “pot belly wealth” or the one set of people involved in the get rich quick syndrome. “Every one should be entitled to survive in this country. Don’t let the NDC action train leave you behind, since we have a national baptism to perform”, she said.

“Remember we have reconstruction (work) to do, to exorcise Grenada from the negativism that is facing the country today, calling itself a government”, she added. The former Senator accused the ruling New National Party (NNP) administration of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell of “forgetting the lines of demarcation between party and government”.

Peters charged that there are some persons working in government ministries engaged in house-to-house campaigning while they are being paid from State resources. She said that she believes the time has come to take back Grenada, since the country does not belong to one group of people. “You have to be vigilant, you have to be ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, since the key word is “we ready now”.

Deputy Political Leader George Prime who also addressed the gathering stressed that the team currently in place is ready to govern the country. He said the statements coming from the NDC camp are not empty promises because they have a group of competent people who can deliver on their promises.

According to Prime, a Barrister-at-law by profession, this country does not need someone to lecture “in tongues” but to speak to the people, since democracy is about nation building. “Election is not about individuals but a better government and bringing about betterment”, said the NDC Deputy Political Leader.

“So if they want to talk about RMC (Revolutionary Military Council) that is not nation building. Election is not about mud-slinging but nation building”, he added. There are reports that the present administration intends to resort to a series of propaganda moves against some executive members of the NDC who were associated with the 1979-83 Grenada Revolution of the late Prime Minister Maurice Bishop.

Prime and fellow barristers Peter David, Nazim Burke and Feron Lowe are among the persons expected to be targeted by the Mitchell government due to their alleged close relationship with the RMC elements of the Grenada Revolution. The senior NDC official indicated that over the last seven years Grenada has witnessed systematic corruption, where one hears all sorts of promises.

“The ship has set sail, a wind of change is blowing into the sails and we will have victory and victory alone”, said Prime. Speculation is rife that Prime Minister Mitchell is making moves to call elections during the April - June period in order to seek an unprecedented third consecutive term in office.
