MINISTER MODESTE-CURWEN AT WHO MEETING

Grenada's Minister of Health and the Environment Dr. Clarice Modeste Curwen is currently in Geneva, Switzerland representing the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the executive board of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Minister Modeste Curwen also holds the position of First Vice-President, after having been elected by the members of the WHO Executive Board, last May. The Executive board of the WHO meets on an annual basis to prepare the agenda and topics for the United Nations General Assembly.

At this session the Board is reviewing health issues of great relevance world wide, including HIV/AIDS, assessment of health systems‚ performance, child and adolescent health and development, use of traditional medicine, international health regulations, representation of Developing Countries in the Secretariat of the WHO, development goals of the UN Millennium Declaration, as well as violence and health.

Minister Modeste Curwen has also held meetings with several Heads of Departments of the WHO and discussed areas of assistance with respect to HIV/AIDS, Health Care Financing, Human Resource Development as well as WHO's involvement in the Caribbean, including regional representation.
