The Greenhouse effect continues to warm the political climate of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique as the New National Party headed to Carriacou for its latest in a series of Candidate Presentations and Parish Launches. Well over seven thousand green clad, flag carrying jubilant supporters gathered at the Digg Playing Field in Harvey Vale in Carriacou. The supporters from Grenada were out in force as well as five boats headed to the sister isle from the mainland while several hundred persons also coming in from Petite Martinique. Before the supporters departed the MV “Amelia” a word of prayer was held for all persons in Carriacou and those who came from Grenada for the event, the gesture was welcomed by all as they exited the vessel.
Addressing what has been described as the largest gathering of any kind in the history of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Minister of Youth Development Senator Emmalin Pierre called on the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique to place their faith in the New National Party. The Minister gave her full endorsement to Honorable Elvin Nimrod describing him as a person who is giving and will continue to give his all for the people of Grenada and in particular Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The NNP Candidate for the St. Andrew South East Constituency also went on to outline the plans and programmes of the New National Party Administration for the youth in the upcoming five year term in government. Senator Pierre was mobbed by a crowd of youth from all over the tri-island state as she left the stage.
Minister of Education and General Secretary of the New National Party Honorable Claris Charles gave her full endorsement of Honorable Elvin Nimrod describing him as a team player and a serious individual who deals with development and not jokes. Minister Charles said that whatever Minister Nimrod promises he delivers. Honorable Charles also went on to speak to the teachers of the nation warning them to take heed and be forewarned of the evil that lurks within the National Democratic Congress.
Deputy Prime Minister Gregory Bowen spoke of the importance of Carriacou and Petite Martinique to the national economy especially in the area of fishing. Minister Bowen spoke of the meaningful contribution that the fishermen of these islands make each day through their trade and of government's support to these fishermen after Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. The Agriculture Minister also spoke of several new initiatives in the area of agriculture such as the employment of work gangs to clear farm land and to plant new crops such as cassava. Minister Bowen also spoke of the rise in the price of oil on the world market and future oil and gas exploration in Grenada which may place Grenada as a major player in the field of petroleum production.
Man of the moment and NNP Candidate for the Constituency of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Honorable Elvin Nimrod in an emotional address to the jubilant crowd spoke of the many projects and programmes which had benefitted ALL the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique as well as visitors to the islands. Minister Nimrod made special mention of the Hillsborough Government School as well as Resource Centre and the work on the Princess Alice Hospital. He described the New National Party as being sensitive to the needs of the people while creating a nation of peace and stability.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell in what was expected by some to be an announcement of the election date addressed the green sea of supporters with a wide ranging address that dealt definitively with the Cap Bank issue and promised new developments in the near future as investigations continue into the operations of the bank. The Prime Minister also took some time in his speech to speak of the many projects the NNP Administration has been able to accomplish and the many more that will be accomplished in the next term of the New National Party in government. The Prime Minister who is seeking an unprecedented fourth term in office, also spoke of a major project in the town of St. George where several more acres of land will be reclaimed from the fish Market area to the Queens Park area.
There were also many performances from a slew of artistes both from Carriacou and the mainland including, multiple Carriacou Calypso Monarch, Road March Champion and Soca Monarch Jermaine 'Superstar' Simon, Shortpree, Rhino, The Boneless, Sheldon Douglas, Inspector and Luni Sparks and Electrify. The nights entertainment was completed with St. Vincent Soca Monarch, Fireman Hooper, Jamaican dancehall sensation Mr. Vegas and surprise artistes Lexus.
The New National Party moves to the Constituency of St. John’s this coming Sunday June 1st, 2008 where the Parish Launch and Presentation of NNP’S Candidate Mr. Fitzroy Bedeau will take place at the Cuthbert Peters Park from 4PM. The event will be broadcast live on the NNP’S Website (www.nnpnews.com) and on various Radio stations throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
