Digicel, the fast growing telecommunications company in the region has agreed to be title sponsors of Drag wars, a major regional sporting event schedule for the 23 rd to the 25 th of May.
The support from Digicel comes as the sport of Drag Racing, organized by the Grenada Motor Club, continues to show enormous potential in Grenada.
Thousands of racing fans are expected to witness the three-day event at the Pearls Airstrip in St.Andrew’s and more than 60 cars from the region will speed for racing glory.
“We could not resist this opportunity to be involved with the Grenada Motor Club and it’s really an exciting event planned from the 23 rd to the 25 th of May. We think it personifies Digicel. It’s fast. Its speed. It’s young it’s a lot of energy and there is a lot of technology. Its everything that Digicel’s about” said an excited Raelene Lazarus, the Marketing Manager at Digicel
She also added, “When drag wars started five years ago I don’t think anyone anticipated that level of growth as they do know just as when Digicel started five years ago I don’t think anyone anticipated Digicel being in 23 countries and our network being as big as it is so we think it’s an ideal match. One exactly reflects the other”.
Cars are expected from Puerto Rico, St.Lucia for the first time as well as St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and neighboring Trinidad and Tobago.
President of the Grenada Motor Club, Ian DaBreo says after five years, the Digicel sponsored May 23 rd to the 25 th Drag Wars will be the biggest.
‘This one is expected to be our biggest so far and the biggest in the English speaking Caribbean. We are expecting in the vicinity of 60 cars throughout the Caribbean region” said DaBreo
“Trinidad is coming back with a vengeance. A lot of automotive development is taking place in Trinidad. For us it’s a huge event and we think it’s a fantastic weekend also from the perspective of sport tourism where we will be hosting not just the racers but also a lot of sporting fans”.
Digicel’s decision to be title sponsors of Drag Wars was announced during a news conference launched at the company’s head office at Point Salines earlier this month.
