James Phillip, eighty one years old, has been arrested and charged for the Saturday morning death of retired businessman Clyde Haywood who resided at Mt. Parnasus.

Reports reaching the news desk of Grenada Informer Newspaper disclosed that it was all as a result of a misunderstanding the two men had on Friday night. It is believed that there as an altercation between the two due to a resounding slap delivered by the hand of Haywood. Reports disclosed that in the early hours Saturday morning a knife was snatched up and plunged it into the lower abdomen of seventy seven year old Clyde Haywood.
Sources revealed that it was not the first time that Haywood had become physical.
There has been talk of Alzheimer's which is a disease that gradually strips a person of mental and physical capabilities and renders them totally incapable of caring for themselves. Alzheimer's disease has a gradual onset. The memory losses are a result of the death of brain cells and connectors between these brain cells. Symptoms include difficulty with memory, confusion, interference with routine work and social activities, language usage, impaired judgement, misplacing objects, mood swings and disorientation with regard to place and time. Every Alzheimer's patient exhibits universal symptoms, yet each patient has an individual pattern. Eventually, this disease process leaves patients with a total loss of ability to care for themselves. The course of Alzheimer's can run from 2-25 years, with the average being four to eight years.
James Phillip, Informer was told, had been living with the Haywoods for some time now, to keep an eye out for his sister and help with her care.
Outside the home, the Haywood couple was seen as a most loving pair. There are many who claims never to have seen one without the other and never witnessed a cross exchange of words.
Clyde Haywood worked previously with W. E. Julien and had been known to manage the Regal Cinema at Paddock. He went there many Sunday mornings to ensure that the reels and projector were in good order.
He retired from Julien's and became a director of Geo. F. Huggin's and Managing Director of BuyRite then the Foodland Supermarkets until he retired from that company in the late nineteen nineties.
Clyde Haywood lost one of his sons tragically years ago. He other sons are, Thane, a well known supporter of the NNP; Michael, Manager of Operations at Aviation Services of Grenada; and Royston, manager of the Botanical Gardens Service Centre.
A visit to the Haywood's home hours after the killing proved futile, as a family member said that they preferred to keep the information surrounding the death of Clyde Haywood private.
James Phillip appeared in the No., 1 Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer the charge of manslaughter which has been brought against him.
