The failure of the Public Service Commission not to promote eight members of the Royal Grenada Police Force in a recent police promotion exercise despite meeting all requirement, including passing the promotion examinations has ended in a landmark victory for those bold officers.
Information reaching the Informer revealed that the PSC, the body charged with the responsibility of making the appointment, has since taken the decision to retract their decision and grant promotion to the various Officers.
Inside sources told the INFORMER that, acting on external legal advice, the authority was warned not to pursue legal action in the matter and therefore Cabinet has already taken the decision to grant the promotion.
In an address to the media on Tuesday, Attorney for one of the Officer, Dr. Francis Alexis, said his client, Rolda Bridgman, is already in receipt of her appointment letter which is due to take effect from May 1 st.
Ms. Bridgman would now be promoted to ASP.
Alexis told the media this is a landmark decision and would act as a precedence for other Officer facing similar situationsin Grenada and the region.
Alexis said the move against his client was unfair, since she met all criteria among them seniority, experience, merit, ability and efficiently including passing her examination with a B grade, far better than seven of those promoted ahead of her.
Alexis said the PSC must not allow itself to be used for political patronage of football but must act in accordance with the role for which it was called to perform.
In the case of Bridgman he said the question of cost must now be brought to bear since his team went through lots of pains to have to decision given by the PSC reversed.
Meanwhile INFORMER also learnt that a second Officer, Bernadette Mc Gilvery, was also promoted and like Bridgman, would as of May 1 st be acting in the post ASP, while the remaining six Officers were passed their examinations and was not promoted due to their allege political ties await their fate.
