A twenty-five year old man from Mt Gay in St George has been officially arrested and charged in connection with the death of a two year-old baby of the same address.
Rondell Mahon, a mechanic by profession, appeared before Chief Magistrate Patricia Mark on Monday to have a murder charged slapped on him for allegedly causing the death of two year- old baby Aaron Fletcher last Monday.
According to reports reaching the Grenada INFORMER, the two year old Fletcher was fished out of a tub of water and quickly rushed to the General Hospital were he later died.
Source told the INFORMER that at the time of the incident the child’s mom was not around, having left the company of her boy friend, Mahon, while she took care of important business in the city. That business trip, we were told, had been cut short when she got a call to say that her two year-old baby was dead.
One source close to the bereaved family told the INFORMER that Mahon would have cared for the said child in the past and therefore caring for young Fletcher on this occasion, was nothing strange to him. However, our source said what transpired last Monday was purely unfortunate.
Mahon, we were told, was about to bathe the baby, but having filled the tub with water, went outside the house leaving the child alone inside. On his returned, we were told he saw the baby lying head down in the tub with water.
The child was quickly administered CPR and rushed to the hospital, but that was too a little too late and young Fletcher later died at the hospital.
At the Court on Monday, represented by Attorney-at-Law Derrick Sylvester, Mahon was not allowed to plea since his matter was an indictable one.
Nevertheless bail was denied and Mahon was remanded at the Richmond Hill Prison. He returns to Court on May 24th. If convicted, Mahon could face life in prison.
