Carnival City came alive to sweet pan music as the Cable & Wireless Commancheros junior band thrilled the audience with their 7 minute rendition at the Junior Panorama Championships held last Saturday, August 4th.
There were no signs of anxiety on the face of Cecil Noel, Manager of the band as he sat and appreciably watched the performance. When the performance had ended his response to the question “what did you think?” was “Excellent performance, great balance and blend of instruments as well as interpretation of the original song” Arrangers Calvin Thomas and Stephen Greenidge’s comments echoed the sentiments of the Manager “Well done! Exactly as was planned. We went out there to do a job and we did it”.
When the results were announced they confirmed that the performance was indeed an excellent one as it earned the youngsters the title of Junior Panorama Champions 2007.
Marketing Communications Manger of Cable & Wireless Sheldon Keens-Douglas said “we are extremely pleased with the performance of the juniors, as our ambassadors they have certainly done us proud. We view sponsorship of the band not only as support for the steeleband art form but also as an investment in our nation’s young people.”
Cable & Wireless Commancheros is celebrating 40 years of being in the pan business this year. The band has been sponsored by Cable & Wireless for the past 17 years. In 2006 the juniors placed second whilst the senior band captured the first place. Cable & Wireless congratulates the Junior Champions and is looking forward to a double celebration when the senior compete on Saturday night at the National Panorama Championships.
