When the school term began on Monday September 1, the children commuting in the River Road area were escorted or directed across the busy street by Wardens. The project is an initiative of the Darbeau/River Road Development Committee and is sponsored by Cable & Wireless.

Parliamentary representative for the town of St. George Hon. Peter David commended Cable & Wireless saying “This is truly the result of business and community working together. I am pleased that Cable & Wireless sponsored this very important project. There are three schools in this area and the street is a very busy one. The School Crossing/Warden Project can actually save the lives of these children.”
Cable & Wireless has agreed to donate $10,000 over a two year period towards the project. According to Marketing Communications Manager Ag, Cable & Wireless Josephine Walters, “This project is a necessary one. We are aware of the difficulty posed to students commuting in such a busy area and we are happy to be able to contribute to their safety and by extension Grenada’s future.”
Members of the Darbeau/River Road Development Committee expressed thanks to Cable & Wireless for sponsorship of the project.
