GRENADA
SAILING FESTIVAL 2006 |

A. WEBB 2006
Watching
the boats sail under spinnaker brought back memories of the days
when competitive sailing in New Mexico was the only sailing I
did. I had raced in regattas in the states sponsored by Mount
Gay Rum and am the happy owner of several of the "red hats".
I did realize the enthusiasm that is held by Caribbean for completive
sailing events. I have now been present at two popular regattas
recently, The Guardian/TTSA Southern Caribbean Dinghy Regatta,
and now The Grenada Sailing Festival.
The sailing is as competitive as I have ever experienced, and
the parties even more lively because of the island flavor and
energy. After racing the rum flows, stories are told, and the
music from steel to dj intermixes with lively conversation.
Grenada has definitely a winning formula as the event attracts
a fleet of international competitors. This sees sailors from....
foreign countries striving to be number one. Undoubtedly no matter
how team finishes they will leave Grenada full-filled, ready to
return next year to the vibrancy of Grenada.
