The Request Band was formed in February of 1999 under the management of Johnny Adams and the musical leadership of Shawn "Roots" Mitchell. In late 1998 Johnny formed a musical alliance with three young gifted individuals, Andrew "Drew" Charles, Davis "Chiney" Sylvester and a young, gifted musician Shawn "Roots" Mitchell. The Band is based in the New York region and is made of talented individuals from the Caribbean Diaspora.

Currently Request Band has 9 members; they practice religiously at least three times a week creating a diverse repertoire to keep updated with the new music while maintaining focus on the classics from the past. One of the biggest challenges for the band was getting the break it deserved. For over a year it was lots of practice and pursuit of an identity. The band began performing in public as of 2000 and was fortunate to perform with artists such as Edwin Yeawood Alston Becket Cyrus, Maximus Dan, Tallpree, Winston SoSo, Scrunter Bunji Garlin, Super "P" and many more. They also shared the stage with some of the top Caribbean bands; Krosfyah, Traffic, Atlantic ,Square One, Xtatik, Burning Flames and others.

In the spring of 2000, Request Band began recording their first album entitled "Is We" which was released for summer 2000. The track "Life Sentence" was a hit and it is still being played on radio and in the dancehalls. Their second album was released in the summer of 2001. The band recorded three singles for 2002, which has been getting good reviews Request Band was the first band to represent Grenada at Soca Rama 2001 in Brooklyn, New York, which was anxiously received by fans.

In January of 2003 the band reconstructed to form an even more potent combination with the addition of former members of Mercury Band. The management task is now shared between MR. Johnny Adams and MR. Devon Forrester. The journey continues as we try to carry Caribbean music all over the United States and beyond.

Our goal is continue creating, exceptional performances, quality music and reach the pinnacle of the art form.
