Born and raised in the parish of St. David's, Grenada, Janice Charles began singing at an early age. She participated and won the Girls Vocal Solo category in the Festival of the Arts competition for a number of years and while attending school she started singing as a background vocalist at recording studios, Calypso Tents, Semi Finals and Dimanche Gras shows for the local calypsonians as part of the annual carnival celebrations.

She was deeply involved in culture and as a member of the National Folk Group she toured as a cultural ambassador for Grenada to North America, the highlight being performing as a lead singer at the Commonwealth Games held in Victoria Vancouver Canada in 1994. During that time she became a lead singer with the Band Huggins Pilgrimage and entertained at local shows and at hotels and restaurants. She also entertained on the Mandalay and Yankee Clipper yachts of the Windjammer Barefoot Cruise Lines.

In 1995 she recorded a duet with calypsonian Black Wizard and the following year she decided to step out from being a Background Vocalist to become a full pledged calypsonian on entering the competition. She made it through the semifinals and was on standby for the Dimanche Gras Finals. She also won the 1996 Female Calypso Monarch Competition. Since then, she has been a contender for the Calypso Crown at the Dimanche Gras among the likes of Black Wizard, Scholar, Beast, Pet, Lady Cinty, Ajamu, Randy Isaac, Squeezy to name a few and placed 4th for three consecutive years then on to St. Vincent and England to perform.

On old years night 1999 into 2000 she was called by God while entertaining at the Island Thyme Restaurant and lead to an all night service held at the youth Centre by Evangelistic Centre a member church of (PAWI) the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies where she was converted into Christianity. After attending converts class she followed through with water baptism and was taken into membership at the Evangelistic Centre, Market Hill, St. George's Grenada, where she fellowships.

She gave up singing with the band and participating in the Carnival Calypso Competition and as her relationship with God developed, through fasting, praying and studying the Word, she began to write as God lead her. She also ministered at Gospel Concerts along with Gospel artistes such as George Banton from Jamaica, Eslyn Orr and Sherwin Gardener from Trinidad & Tobago.

She is by far Grenada's most versatile and innovative Gospel Artiste. Her compelling, melodious vocals and captivative style, stirs, encourages and lifts your spirit as she ministers in Calypso, Caribbean Contemporary and Reggae.

Her album 'Take It Back' truly depicts the Caribbean flavour and you do not have to be a Christian to enjoy the blessings that comes with listening and worshiping with her music. This ten track album is laced with powerful lyrical messages, skillfully written on beats that invites you to dance as she sings the different Caribbean Melodies, she knows how to lead her audience into a deep spiritual place of worship. Since the Launch of her 1st gospel Album in June 2003 at the Tanteen Recreation Ground, Grenada, she has travelled to Trinidad & Tobago, Canada and different parts of the US, Ministering at Churches and Gospel Concerts and has been well received with great commendations.

On February 8th She received the DeeVee International Productions Calypso/Soca Award for Grenada's Best Female Artiste from 1974 to 2004 at an Award Ceremony held in Brooklyn New York in celebration of Grenada's 30th Anniversary of Independence.

On May 8th 2004 she was awarded Best New Female Caribbean Gospel Artiste at the Gil & Pat Bailey 4th Annual Caribbean Gospel Awards held in Brooklyn New York.

She is deeply committed to full time service to God through her Music Ministry and believes that the most rewarding accomplishment is to seek, know, follow and fulfill God's purpose for your life no matter who, what or where you are
