Student Assistance Programme (SAP)

Established in 1987 to break the cycle of poverty – empower people by enabling them to attend Secondary School. Because while Secondary Education became free of tuition in 1983, the high cost of books, uniform and transportation often make it impossible for students of unemployed, low income parents to accept the opportunity for Secondary education.

In 1989 GRENCODA introduced an annual eight (8) day Personal Development Educational Camp during the long July/August vacation for all students supported in the Programme.

From 1993 support for fees and/or books to attend T. A. Marryshow Community College was provided to students who excelled at Secondary level.

In 1995 Workshops for Form 5 students, Form repeaters and Parenting was introduced as an additional component of the programme.

The objectives are:

1. To improve the ability of parents to communicate effectively with the children (students);

2. Provide additional skills for improved guidance/support at home.

3. Provide opportunity for parents to share experience as they face the challenge of Parenting.
