FAYE CALDER

One hot, sizzling summer afternoon, August 11th to be exact, a star was born to Gloria Julien and Robert Calder of Carriacou. She was born at Woodhull Hospital Brooklyn New York. They named her Faye. She is the younger of two sisters with whom she is closely bonded. Faye has blossomed into a shining and brilliant adult, and at 19 years old she is a proud contestant in the Ms Grenada/USA Pageant 2007.

Faye attended Philippa Schuyler Junior High School, and throughout her childhood and adult life was exposed to several activities both here and in Grenada. At the young age of 19 she began dance classes at her school and also at the Charles Moore Dance Studio. This led to her participating in various dance concerts. Upon graduation she received an Award for Dance and African American Studies. She attended La Guardia High School for Music and the Performing Arts. There she took piano lessons, and voice training which enabled her to take leading roles in several choirs both in school and in her church. She volunteered at the Dean's office while she was employed by La Guardia Alumni and Friends. As a result she received many service awards and a Scholarship from the Alumni.

Faye's parents believe that maintaining one's culture is extremely important so every summer she and her parents would travel to Grenada to participate in the Carnival festivities there. She describes these summers there as most memorable, exhilarating and enjoyable. Though she was not born in Grenada she considers herself a native because she is so familiar with the island and its history.

Faye currently attends New York University (NYU) where she is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology, with hopes of obtaining a Doctorate in that field and become a Clinical Psychologist.

Faye is open minded and takes pride in her ability to meet and greet new people and learn about their ethnic history and culture. In 2006 she was the recipient of the Joseph Fauberman Scholarship, thus proving that she is a conscientious and well rounded student. She has chosen for the Platform, Abusive Relationships because she wishes to send a message to people of her generation about choices and options.

Her Philosophy ": Always remember- There is never a second chance to make a first Impression.”
