CARICOM has agreed to waive and reduce its membership fees in some instances to Grenada in light of the devastation caused by Hurricanes Ivan in 2004, and Emily in 2005. The agreement was made at the Intersession CARICOM meeting in Trinidad on February 8-9, 2006.

The agreement is as follows:

Year 2004 100% Waived

Year 2005 Fees reduced by 50%

Year 2006 Fees reduced by 25%

Prime Minister Mitchell took the opportunity to publicly express gratitude on behalf of the Government and People of Grenada for the contributions made by fellow CARICOM neighbours in the reconstruction and redevelopment of Grenada. Mention was also made of the sacrifice that Grenadians themselves are making with regards to the recently implemented National Reconstruction Levy.
